Mike,
CHALLENGER was officially renamed KAITAKI on 17 April 2007. On that day the old name was painted over, leaving just KAITAKI. Her port of registry remains Portsmouth, under the British flag. The official renaming also involved changing the name on lifeboats, lifebuoys, liferafts, ship's plans and of course the AIS display. So when Bob photographed her on 23 June 2007 he correctly identified her as KAITAKI. Regards Stephen Berry Wellington |

Bob,
Great photo mate, I really like it. But... you know the real name of the ship the "Challenger" Kaitaki is only a marketing name. This is a serious shipping site and I believe ships have to be recorded under their "proper" names, not some marketing idea. Otherwise in the future confusion arises. Personnally I don't know why they did not renamed her Kaitaki, it's, I think, a much nicer name. But they didn't, so Challenger it is. Rgds/Mike |
