The John S. Dempster Jr. is seen in lower Chesapeake Bay off Virginia Beach, Virginia on May 23, 2007. The Dempster was built in 1944 and is 166.3 feet long with a breadth of 32 feet. The venerable vessel is part of a fleet of similar vessels which fish for menhaden using a purse seine laid out by two smaller vessels which the Dempster carries.
