Re: Maxim Gorkiy sold... for scrap! I wonder where she is going...
About a week ago German TV reported that some people here at Hamburg were trying to raise funds to buy her and bring her back to Hamburg as a hotel or museum or something. But so far there have been no news if they're succeeding or not. Looks like they did not...

Re: Maxim Gorkiy sold... for scrap! it was reported that they do have the money to buy the ship, but no berth for her in Hamburg. The whole story is pretty much similar to that of finnjet, even Maxim Gorkiy beeing a Gas-Turbine Ship.

Re: Maxim Gorkiy sold... for scrap! Hello Kai, can't decide whether that's good or bad news... One should think, though, that the Port of Hamburg is big enough. Regards, Jens

Re: Maxim Gorkiy sold... for scrap! Latest news on Maxim: On January, 29, she called at Limassol to have some of her key fittings removed. On January, 30, she left Limassol and is now said to be anchored off Port Said, awaiting transit of the Suez Canal... Destination: Alang. There are still negotiations going on, though, to find her a permanent berth at Hamburg. See MARITIME MATTERSRegards, Jens

Re: Maxim Gorkiy sold... for scrap! Just found this nice video online, where you can see the ship's rather nostalgic looking interior (but that's the way to go, when travelling by ship, I think ) http://www.hamburg1video.de/video/iLyROoafJmTD.html ----------------

Re: Maxim Gorkiy sold... for scrap! I found a website today with the latest news on her: http://hotelschiffhamburg.de/abschliessende-verhandlungen/Apparently, there are still talks about Maxim Gorkiy coming to Hamburg and final negotiations between the Senate and Investors are taking place today. Also there is an option to buy the ship which runs out today. The city is offering a berth on Kirchenpauerkai, which would not be accessible by the public until 2015. But maybe a temporary berth until then can be found. Meanwhile the ship is in the Red Sea, less than a week away from India. More news forthcoming. Regards Kai

Re: Maxim Gorkiy sold... for scrap! for all of you out there with crossed fingers: Talks by the investors with the City of Hamburg have so far not been successful. The Hamburg Government is in favour of finding a solution, but the Hamburg Port Authority has not been constructive. In consequence, the original investors have dediced not to pursue the project.
The promotors are now trying to find other investors but the future of the ship looks bleak. Maxim Gorkiy is at anchor in front of Alang, but still in the possesion of a trader, so far not handed over to the breakers yard.
Further news forthcoming.
Regards,
Kai
