One way to ged rid of unwanted car carriers...... Tradewinds reports today that the DYVI PACIFIC struck rocks, capsized and sank whilst on sea trials this week. The 6,700-car vessel had just been christened and had not even been delivered to owner Jan-Erik Dyvi when the incident occured after leaving the builders yard, Weihai Samjin, China. Tradwinds reports that the ship is likely to be considered a total loss. Phil ---------------- Admin for reefer ships category

Re: One way to ged rid of unwanted car carriers...... How sad!! With good help of news.google.com I found a Chinese web page that has pictures of the casualty. It looks like she grounded and capsized literally at the yard, because you can see the yard's gantry crane as well as sister ship "Dyvi Atlantic" at the yard's quay in the background. The pictures can be found here: http://www.eworldship.com/news/default_show.asp?id=5491Here's one of the pictures (via hotlink):

Re: One way to ged rid of unwanted car carriers...... I noticed. If you look at the picture of the two vessels bow-to-bow (probably during the christening) it looks like they painted the port side facing the quay and ceremony, but not the starboard side (which facing away).

Re: One way to ged rid of unwanted car carriers...... That has to be the world's shortest sea trial. There is still a couple of mooring wires attaching the ship to the shore!
