Re: Ro-Ro ship Victoria VI lost cargo in North Sea
Hi Again,

Well don't as yet know the situation but the Victoria Vi is back in Lerwick Harbour this morning, From looking out the window she has a very slight list to starboard.

The wind has been a constant NW gale for a couple of days, although it has eased now.

Regards
Richard

The Norwegian car ferry Bergensfjord was enroute Bergen - Hanstholm at the same time..
In 8 meter waves 2 trailers were overturned.

This rings a bell - one of the difficulties the Riverdance probably had was a shift of cargo, creating a list that they could not counteract with ballast. The early photos of the Riverdance clearly show that the cargo on the upper deck had shifted.

This design of ro-ro - accommodation aft, with an open upper deck - does expose the cargo to the weather and the loss of trailers over the side is not uncommon. However, it could be said that this is a good thing - if in horrendous weather, the cargo shifts severely, it is lost over the side rather than ending up piled up against a bulwark causing the ship to list.

Hi
What can I say storm, violent storm and hurricane force winds.
One after another.
The incident you talk about has not been reported in the Faroese media.

On Wednesday another ship the Porsøy returned to Scrabster after some cargo came loose in bad weather.

Your picture with the cargo on deck gives us a good picture.

This RO-RO is not having much luck lately as on 7th February she limped into Lerwick after trailers shifted in heavy weather.

As you can see from my photo when she left 3 days later the open deck does not afford much if any protection for her cargo.

Perhaps the ship is unsuitable for that run in winter, as they say these things come in three's and maybe next time she won't be so lucky....

Ro-Ro ship Victoria VI lost cargo in North Sea
This morning the Ro-Ro cargo ship Victoria VI encountered hurricane force winds and huge waves just north of Hanstholm, Denmark. En route Faroes - Denmark.

5 Trailers washed overboard and other were damaged.
Cargo shifted and the ship created a list.

At the moment the ship is at Frederikshavn, Denmark.

Victoria VI is chartered by Smyril Blue Water.

Here a picture of the ship courtesy Derek Sands.
