Early adopters of the “ECO” ship trend which erupted into the shipping scene in 2011, when bunker fuel prices became an issue for many ship owners, could very well be on the wrong end of the sword, since there first designs weren’t all that radical and fuel saving, at least when compared to the most recent ones. Even so, ECO ships will continue to enjoy a higher fee than their more conventional “siblings”, which is precisely why most ship owners have followed down that path, when placing their newbuilding orders.
