Description:

The BP tanker British Flag sailing from Isle of Grain. One of the numerous 16,000 ton class she was built by Hawthorne Leslie in 1953, spent all her life with BP, and was broken up at Burriana in 1971.

You did better than we managed - the ship I took this from was thw Border Reiver, one of the same class but modified to Common Brothers requirements - and our tour was 12 months and 5 days; happy ones however, at least in retrospect.

I sailed on the British Flag as the Radio officer in 1969. I joined in Grangemouth and we then spent the best part of 3 weeks getting to Banda Mashur. The radio station was purely WT and from memory it was a Marconi installation. I discharged 6 months later in Rotterdam for 2 months leave.
