Yes indeed Bob. Remember that tankers are bulk carriers. The tanks are machine washed, picked and inspected. Grain is then loaded through the Butterworth plates and tank trunks and removed using basically large vacuums. USSR had a very poor grain harvest in 1976-77 and many US tankers carried grain there. At the time I was on the MOBIL LUBE, and we had a full load of corn. See my picture of the CHILBAR loading grain in Houston, discharging in Port Qasim during her final voyage before scrapping.
