More than 200 C1-M-AV1 were built - by several shipyards - for cargo service in WW2.
I was on one of them in 1955 serving as 3rd mate. Engine was diesel. By then the ship belonged to C.A.V.N. - The venezuelan line serving venezuela and the us ports of the Gulf of Mexico.Name was "Republica de Venezuela" and had a sister "Rio Orinoco.

Indeed a C1MAV1 class vsl, Nordberg Milwaukee Diesel Main Eng.
which was quite a thing, normally all US merchantvsls were having steam engines. These C1MAV1 vessels were also called Victories or knot-vessels....

This is Hellenic Line’s ROTTERDAM, a US WW2 standard Type C1-M-AV1 freighter built in 1945 by J A Jones Construction Co, Brunswick Georgia as COASTAL CAPTAIN. First sold for civilian use in 1948, she bore the names ANDINO, GERTRUD C ERTEL and I C ERTEL before joining the Hellenic Lines fleet in 1967.
IMO no 5016274.
