Description:

Stephen Brown reg Sydney heading down the Hunter River after loading coal for Sydney in the early 1980's. This ship was sold to the Australian Maritime College and is permanently moored at Beauty Point, Bell Bay, Tasmania and used for training purposes.

I remember the Stephen Brown berthing at the North Shore Gasworks wharf in Kerosene Bay, Waverton in the 1950s when I was a boy. The coal after discharge was retorted to make the gas and we kids had to pick up the coke as it left by uncovered truck, spilling onto the road in Ross Street. it was used for heating.
