Description:
On Dec.05, 1985, during discharging operations in Mäntyluoto/Finland, 18 mafi-rolltrailers with jute, which were stowed in the forepart of the maindeck, caught fire. Fortunately other trailers stowed in the mid and aftpart could be discharged in time, so that the firebrigade could approach the fire via stern ramp. Later on – and in order to speed up – a hole was burnt into the forepart of vessel’s portside hull and water as well as foam were pumped into the maindeck. After 18 hours the fire was extinguished.
After provisionally repairs in Finland vessel received allowance from classification society to return to Germany, where she was fitted with a complete new weatherdeck.
