Description:

Beached at Garelochead in Scotland. Aberdovey definately resembles the ex-RMAS service craft. Although this location is on the other side of the Firth of Clyde , I have put Greenock as the nearest recognised port.

I was the Coxswain at that time and note other comments. Aberdovey came straight from the builders - Isaac Pimblot - to ATURM and I've uploaded a photo with its second bridge taken when we went to the NE based at Liverpool taking SCC out for training. We did trips to France and the Channel Isles plus up and down the coast often in above spec sea conditions which "Dovey" handled well even if the passengers didn't. The boat was replaced by the larger FT and went then into SCC service.

Aberdovey or HMFT Aberdovey was the fleet tender to the Amphibious training unit Royal marines in Poole Dorset in 1969. I was the engineer. The crew at the time consisted of myself (R.N) and a Sgt. RM as coxn. a corpl and 2 marines. we operated around the channel islands training RM officers in navigation (as they would be i/c larger landing craft) we also acted as support ship for the RM entry in the round Britain power boat race in 1969.
