Hi Fred, which makes your sharing them with us now, even more remarkable. Am currently scanning a large selection of slides of coasters and smaller cargo vessels from the same era - but they are nowhere near as impressive as your collection. Will start to post them soon.

Wow Fred, what a shot of this lovely old ship...formerly British too.
Launched on 30/04/1945 and commissioned on 28/11/1945 by Burrards, Vancouver, Canada (235) as the "Victory" class vessel HMS F29 "Fife Ness" and outfitted as a Royal Navy Landing Craft Repair & Maintenance Ship.
Transferred in 1947 to the Royal Air Force as a depot ship and renamed "Adastral".
Sold in 1953 to Goulandris Bros. Ltd., London and converted to a general cargo ship of 7,300 g.t. and 11,270 dwt. Note an additional bridge deck was added.
Renamed "Merlin" in 1954.
Arrived Whampoa, China for demolition 23/06/1971.
See other photo here as "Fife Ness":-

Did not see anything like that at Port Huron yesterday -- Jan 13-- although the dark clouds were still there.
