Description:

The 1978-built Caledonian MacBrayne vehicle and passenger ferry Saturn takes a wide berth at speed before using her bow thrusters to come astern into her vehicle Linkspan at Gourock Ferry Terminal fresh from her regular service from Dunoon. She is known locally as a 'Clyde streaker' , as when she was built , she was so very much faster that the previous type of ferry and built with advanced propulsion. As from the 30th June 2011 , the new tender for the Calmac Gourock-Dunoon service was for passenger-only vessels and operated by Calmac subsiduary company Argyll Ferries Ltd. Saturn herself retired into hot lay-up at Rosneath on 30th August 2011 and still a member of the fleet in April 2012.

UPDATE : After nearly four years in storage , Saturn was eventually sold to Pentland Ferries Ltd in Orkney. After an extensive refit in dry dock , she was given her new name ORCADIA and left the Clyde on April 22nd 2015 for her new life in the north.

Excellent photo, when blown up to full size I can see clearly who is 'driving'.
