Description:

Alongside AIS steel works jetty Kwinana WA, 19/8/1979
Built 1957 by BHP Co. Ltd., Whyalla, for BHP's use. 10250grt. Sister ship was IRON WHYALLA.
(This was IRON SPENCER's final visit to Western Australia. She was decommissioned in the next month and broken up in Taiwan in January 1980).

Hi Brian 1950,My Dad said the same thing, can you describe the colour scheme? Hi Name was Colin Carnegie and would have been on the Spencer July 1966 to November 1966

I remember Billy Kelso quite well, my first ship was the Iron Monarch, then the Iron Baron and the Duke it went on and on...I was on heaps lol

I was a young deckboy on the old Iron Spencer about 1976, I remember she was built to last(Rivets). We joined her in Beauty Point in Tassy after she'd been laid up for a while and was on her for about 6 months. I think the Bosun's name was Billy Kelso !!!

What a great shot of Iron Spencer! She was a nice looking ship in her time. I would love to get hold of a set of plans of her to build a model. Great pic!
