Can only echo Marc's comments, one of the best of Essex I have seen.

Thankyou Marc for so precisely identifying the location

Norman took these photographs of ESSEX from on board the liner in which he and his family had emigrated from Portishead (Bristol) to Canada in September 1966

I did not realize that this photo had been taken in Canada. After close scrutiny, the background looks like adjacent to the Longue Pointe anchorage at the east end of the Port of Montréal which is where ships anchored in the old days prior to the use of the present anchorage at Pointe-aux Trembles in the 1970s which is farther eastward. The Longue Pointe anchorage is never used these days.
I also assume that this shot was taken from an upbound vessel as this view is from the main shipping channel.

Hope this clarifies the location.

Regards,

Marc

Thank you Marc - are you able to say exactly where in the St.Lawrence Seaway these photographs of ESSEX were taken please?

Nice series of old NZ Steam ships you posted today, Malcolm. Well worth downloading in any collection.

Thanks for sharing them, my friend.

Cheers,

Marc
