Seems as though many a great VLCC was mistreated due to the OPEC crisis. the Batillus-class comes to mind.

Essentially a result of the 1973 OPEC increase in crude oil.

When these tankers were built they were designed to be powered by steam turbines, but with the huge increase in bunkers most of the first generation VLCC's had a short life, with many in lay up for long periods during their short lives.
