Description:
Come across this one in the English Channel of Dungeness in 1964. First and only, nuclear powered cargo vessel, she certainly looked the part. Apologies for quality, was hurried and exposure was pure guess-work.

Apart from everything else, Savannah always was a good-looking ship. Just for the record, the name "Savannah" had great significance. In 1819 "Savannah" was the name of the first ship equipped with a steam engine to cross the Atlantic Ocean (although she actually went most of the way by sail). Consequently, it was considered appropriate that the first nuclear-powered merchant ship should also be named "Savannah".

Savannah was the first nuclear merchant vessel but not the only one.
I saw a German nuclear merchant vessel in the 70 ies, Otto Hahn, and the Japanese I think also had a nuclear powered cargo ship.
