Description:

Ivan Franko class cruise ship. 20,352 GRT. 175.8m x 23.6m, launched December 1970. In February 1986 she struck rocks and sank near Port Gore with the loss of one crew member, South Island NZ. Photo taken January 1986, berthed at Pyrmont.

Tony, Whilst I never sailed on Fairstar (and my experience of the Lermontov were before her rebuild as shown above) I'm still certain that you made the right choice.

Hi Clive, I was contemplating a cruise on this ship - chose Fairstar instead. Given your experience plus the fact she sank, guess I made the right decision.

One should not have regrets or dwell on ones mistakes but I certainly regret having chosen to take a cruise aboard this ship. She was a shabby and poorly run vessel and it was hard to believe that she was at that time just seven years old.

Sorry missed your comment. Yes she sank shortly after this was taken early 1986.
