Unfortunately Hipermodal suffered a number of setbacks (not least the untimely accidental death of one of the principals) and they were unable to make repayments to the Government's Mercantile Marine Fund. The ship was taken over by the Fund and handed to Lloyd Brasileiro to be operated. LB was by then itself in terminal decline and she spent long periods laid up in Guanabara Bay in LB colours, without much, if any, maintenance.
At some point in the 1990s she seems to have been recovered by Hipermodal (at least the Hipermodal colours were restored at some point). They were claiming in the courts quite recently, and long after JACQUELINE had been scrapped, that this long neglect by LB and the Fund meant that she was unable to earn the revenue necessary to repay the loan.
And then the fire!

that made this case clearer!
I couldn't imagine, that an intact ship has been laid up for such a long time without a good reason.
Best regards to Brazil,

My question mainly focussed on what happened before the ship went to the breakers.
