Description:
Waterman Steamship Corporation's Topa Topa aground on an island near Kure about 1969. It appears the ship's radar had been repaired at Kure and the heading marker was incorrectly aligned. Sailing at night in heavy rain nobody noticed that the bearing of this island wasn't changing while that of the channel she was making for was. A C2 type completed in 1945 she survived this incident to be broken up in Kaohsiung in 1973.
This, and the other photo, were taken at dusk as we passed through the channel the Topa Topa had been intending to transit hence the poor quality for which my apologies.
