If done "correctly", it is difficult to distinguish HDR from a normal photograph. It has its uses in certain lighting conditions. However, as you said, often just a simple single-exposure photograph is enough.

Tuomas, thank you for the explanation, although I do not understand why someone should use such technic if it is the easiest, to do what this user did: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=1442151 Simply take a photo instead of fiddling with images :)
