We can still experience this with the EARNSLAW, 100 years old now.

I remember riding on her from Seattle to Victoriain I believe June of 1983. My brother and I were down by one of those open passenger doors the near the water line as she steamed up Puget Sound. We could not hear the engines or feel any vibration. We just heard the sound of the ship cutting through the water. Those old steam turbines were so quiet and smooth. Thanks for the memory.
