Description:

Built by the Great Lakes Engineering Works, River Rouge,Mi in 1943 as PILOT KNOB for the united States Maritime Administration. Renamed FRANK ARMSTRONG and assigned to the Interlake Steamship Co.Renamed SAMUEL MATHER (6) in 1976. Layed up for the last time at Detour,Mi in Dec 1981.
Sold for overseas scrapping in 1987 and towed to Alang,after wintering in Sydney,Nova Scotia. Photo taken at Port Huron,Mi Sept 16,1987 under tow of the tugs N W TOLAN and GLENEVIS
