Description:

EVANGELISTRIA as shown while proceeding downbound from Montréal on December 11, 1983. I had to find a higher vantage point to photograph this ship in frigid temps to see her properly so I climbed the ladder along the side of a grain elevator at Varennes. If I had elected to stay on shore, I would have ended up seeing only her masts and upperworks. Nowadays, I still have permission to climb the structure but I'm not as agile as I used to be 20 years ago...certainly not in that kind of weather.

Admirable effort Marc. In our port we often have issues with tugs, and just sometimes its nice to do something different so we shimmy up the light towers here for some great elevated views. But low fog is not a hazard here, it's all or nothing.

Cheers

Actually it's not fog, it's more like cold steam produced when the air temperature is much colder than that of the surface of the water. If the winds are calm, this steam can reach a height of 40 meters or more but if it's windy, the steam will stay near the surface like in the above photo.
