Description:
View on the foredeck (flushdeck), while entering the Port of New York.
The hatchcovers consist of steel beams, wooden boards, 1 old tarpaulin, 1 new and 1 old again. The tarpaulins were secured with wooden wedges on the side. On top a few irons held the tarpaulins. In stormy weather, a net could be put over the hatches to prevent tearing apart of the tarpaulins by overcoming waves.
Queen Elizabeth 2 IMO:6725418 can be seen ahead.
