Description:
The Eastern Trader at Madras. Completed by Kawaminami at Nagasaki in 1945 she was built to the Japanese wartime design Type 2A. With a dwt of 11,200 tons this was Japans equivalent of the Liberty ships. Built as Enshu Maru, 1952 Kyoan Maru, 1958 Shin-Ei Maru, 1964 Eastern Trader. 25 December 1966 arrived Kaohsiung to be broken up. Most type 2A ships that survived the war wee rebuilt with engines amidships but Eastern Trader appears little changed from her original design.

You are quite correct, Mr Heal asked for photographs of Japanese standard designs when preparing the book and chose this for the cover.

Is this not the original photo that is used on the front cover of S.C. Heal's book 'Ugly Ducklings'?
