Description:

40 years old this year, Gopher State seen in Southampton a few years back. Built by Bath Iron Works as Export Leader for American Export Lines, she was designated type C5-S-73B. Transferred to US Govt. in 1987, she was renamed Gopher State and came into Southampton infrequently in connection with the US Army base at Hythe.
