Description:

The 1960 Deutsche Werft Hamburg built MUNSTERLAND, which had been detained in the Great Bitter Lakes between 1967 to 1974, was here photographed as the Greek flag MUNSTERLANDES in the St.Lawrence Seaway in October 1981. She had since 1978 been owned by C.D.& G.Prokopiou, who had notably purchased several ships from DDG Hansa, amending the ending of their names from ...FELS to ...BELS.

Renamed MUNSTERLANDES in 1980 after a two year charter back to HAPAG had ended, she finally arrived at Fujian in March 1984 to be broken up

Nice photo Marc and thanks Malcolm for sharing. They don't build 'em like this anymore!

Many thanks for the correction Marc. MUNSTERLANDES was trading worldwide, in port at Tunis in mid 1981 and by January 1982 bound from Matanzas, Cuba, into the Pacific.

Hi Malcolm.

I took this one. She was upbound on the St. Lawrence River off Varennes not in the Seaway.
Nice scan of the original slide.

Cheers,

Marc
