Thank you very much for the offer Mike, youve got a message. I have heard about that new book about sietas ship types by Detlefsen. But when I heard the price 98 Euros, I deleted that out of my brain ! Couriosity, a like for Sietas ships so and so, but that price, is too much for me.

Hi Bob, you worked with Mr. Detlefsen? Cool, your combined shipping knowledge would be enough for more then one book I guess.:-) "Die Typschiffe der Sietas Werft" is a real treasure, really worth the money spent. And I think I'll try to get a copy of "Vom Ewer...". That really does sound interesting, too. And thanks for the translation, fruit was clear but "palletised" didn't come to mind...

I used to work with Uwe Detlefesen and know that if he says that they were Typ 83 variants I must correct my own Sietas list. Uwe gave me a copy of his “Vom Ewer zum Containerschiff – Die Entwickung der deutschen Küstenmotorshiff, which was published in 1983 and covered ships built for West German owners. By the time he published the Sietas book, I had changed jobs and lost contact with him. The rest of my database info is derived from various, less-reliable sources. Looks like I need to save up my euros nad buy a copy of the Sietas book!
“Frucht- und Palettenfahrt” means the later ships had capacity for fruit (reefer) and palletised cargoes.

Hm, according to Detlefsen's "Die Typschiffe" der Sietas Werft" Ouirgane and her sisters Ouezzane and Ouarzazarte are a Sietas type 83b and the 1978 built Oulmes and Oualida are type 83e. Sietas type 83 had six variations, b is defined as a container ship 195 TEU (also Frucht- und Palettenfahrt, don't know that in English), e is defined as b but ice strengthened and more horse power

Hello cornelia
i have a list of all ships built at sietas with yard no, year and sietas type no,starting at yard no 421 with type 1.
also a list with about 4800 ex names from sietas with year and yard no and a building list from yard no 315 in 1934. this was the first yard no from sietas. it was a conjecture that they had built about 300 ships from 1635 till 1934 only in 1912-13 they gave 12 no from no 63 to no 74 to ships
send me an e mail [email protected]
regards
mike

Hello Bob, thanks for the additional info ! Very much of value, because I am very interested in ships from this shipyard, but it is hard to find info on the various types, apart from the newer and usual and many of type 168'ers.

She was one of five multi-purpose,box-hold, general cargo/container ships built by Sietas for Cie Marocaine de Navigation, Morocco. They were built in two batches: the first three (including this one ) in 1975 and another two in 1978. The latter two were of the Sietas Type 95c design. They looked much the same as this one but I am not certain what Type Sietas called this one and its two sisters.

Is it a gen.cargo ship, container feeder or a reefer? I've seen her sisters (ATHERTON ICE & ILANIA STAR) in many categories as well as in my hometown in 2006 on repairs.
