Dec 24th 2003. The Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker DES GROSEILLIERS is slipping slowly away from her wharf at the Québec Coast Guard base, as the ice is getting thicker. Because the tidal current (up to 4 knots) no vessel can stay tied up at the wharf except for very short stay.
The icebreaker stationned in Québec city is stbye for any potential ice jam under Québec bridge. She is also stbye for the ferries and for any request for assistance if a commercial vessel become beset in ice. She is also on Search and Rescue stbye.
