Hello,Chris! Many thanks for your comment and information. Yes,I have also looked at some pictures, they look very alike. As for other pictures, I have some, but mostly old fishing vessels. Actually, there are lots of rusting old ships of any kind on The Kola Peninsula, but they are mostly in restricted military areas. By the way,I`m visiting my folks in Murmansk next month, maybe will take some pictures if I`m lucky. :) Regards,Maksim

Dear Maksim

A really excellent composition !

I have checked my Soviet reference books and I believe this is a Skoryy class, as at least 20 were still in existance in 1984.

They had a short fo'castle and the bridge matches other photos I have.

Do you have any more like this, especially the Sverdlov cruisers.

Regards

Chris

Hello,Gpd! Thank you for very interesting information.Following it I`ve just looked at some pics of Skory on the web.You may be right, but Skory seems a much bigger ship than this one. This hulk can be some kind of a mine sweep as well. Here are more pictures from a russian site: http//www.atrinaflot.narod.ru/81_publications/2008/flag_01.htm My best regards,Maksim

My best guess is that the hulk in the middle of the photo is a SKORY class destroyer. The bridge looks like a fit and 70 of those were produced late 40:ies early 50:ies, some of them not decomissioning until late in the eighties. Not certain though, just an eduacted guess

Hello,Maripaul. Thanks for your comment,it`s very pleasant for me.Well,I`ve got some more pics and I promise I`ll be posting them little by little as I get around to scanning my negative films. Nowadays the situation is a little better in Murmansk only near the town, but I hear that in some remote places along the bay there are lots of wrecks to be scrapped. Best regards,Maksim

Thank you for this photo post. I was in Murmansk in 1995 and saw so many similar sad vessel situations. Do you have more images of the Murmansk situation in 1995? I recall several ships simply run aground and abandoned as well as multiple submarines with their metal skin removed and abandoned. It was a very sad time for mariners who witnessed the situation in Murmansk at that time.
