Description:

FEDERAL KIVALINA has created mayhem in Welland Canal like it has not been seen since 1995. She has attempted to enter lock # 7 yesterday at approximately 1500 hours. As I already reported, she got stuck in heavy ice shield (3 feet thick) and attempt by a tug SEAHOUND to free her, has failed. Today after multiple attempts by tugs SEAHOUND, VAC and JOHN SPENCE by 1700 hrs she still remained stranded, thus creating a traffic backlog of thirteen vessels and financial loses estimated at millions of dollars.
Photographed on December 21, 2005 from 1433 to 1704 hrs.

Vessels that have been delayed (downbound traffic): ALGOISLE, ALGOWAY, ALGOWOOD, STEPHEN B. ROMAN, PINEGLEN, CANADIAN NAVIGATOR, FEDERAL WELLAND & barge McASPHALT 401 ( her tug JOHN SPENCE is assisting stranded vessel ).

Vessels that have been delayed (upbound traffic): ALGOMARINE, JOHN D. LEITCH, CAPT. HENRY JACKMAN, CSL NIAGARA & PETITE FORTE.
