I have correction to Birkir Agnarsson comments.
Miranda did follow the leading lines at all times during departure Grindavik port.
I was in the port side of the weelhouse watching the leading marks aft of the ship when sailing outside the brakewater, captain and mate was working together
in starboardside reporting and steering according to the leading marks.
This was also said in the accidentinvestigation in Kristiansund that same year and was backed up by a number of fotos i took during the departure of Grindavik.
Regarding the pilot,Mirandas captain was in tight dialog with the pilot, there was to big waves the first day after finished loading the ship,so the ship waited 24 hours for calm sea. This was due to the shallow water in the harbourentrance for the fully loaded Miranda.
The pilot did not have a pilotboat to pick him up,
if he joined us we had to put him ashore at another port more south at Iceland ,the pilot stayed in Grindavik.
The reason for grounding was that we met a wave much larger than the other waves at the shallowest point
of the entrance.

MIRANDA sunk off Iceland´s coast on 27 January 1991. In the afternoon of 26 January she was outbound the port of Grindavík after refusing assistance by the local pilot. MIRANDA did not follow the leading lines and knocked the seafloor with the result of a large hole in the engine room. Despite hours of attempts to control the leakage by pumping out the in flowing water, with assistance of pumps brought onboard from shore, the crew and rescuers had to give up and abandon the ship. Soon later she capsized and sank.
