actually you are right/wrong
the hatches are 14,,and they can be opened as you can separately, which of course has the advantage that one can access one hold on one side while there might cargo on top on the other side or also in the hold below.
However,the space under the hatches are called holds, they might be separated by girders and are usually,
so she has 14 hatches ,but only 5 holds, I was on similar ships in the late 70,s,, Freedeburg / Neuenburg a HH company with the name Barthold Richters longtime gone already. Those shipsc were builded in former East Germany, Rostock,,very good ships at that time

14 hatches! I wonder how many of these dinosaurs with Stuelcken derricks are still in service?
