British naval task force sails to Gibraltar.
Over 1,100 sailors and marines are visiting Gibraltar this weekend making use of what the Command British Forces here describe as "Gibraltar’s important facilities as a forward mounting base."

The deployment is known as 'Cougar 12' and is made up by the Royal Navy’s Response Force Task Group which will see ships transit through the Western Mediterranean and Adriatic.

"The deployment takes place annually and was formed as a result of 2010’s Strategic Defence and Security Review initiative and is at the heart of the UK's maritime contingent capability, held at very high readiness to respond to unexpected global events," said the British naval command.
