Some ships had the accommodation split so as to allow access to a hold, with the accommodation built either side of the hold.
Others were designed this way to the ports they'd be calling at, especially if there was a space/size restriction - this was quite noticeable on ships trading to South American meat ports.

Hi Denis! Well, it was basically a cargo liner, so the yard had to place a hatch somewhere in this area of the ship. I don't have the slightest idea, why they split the accomodations exactly that way they did, but there was certainly some design of ships for its own sake at the end of the 1950ies. Nowadays nearly nothing will be done in ship design "only for the godd look". So i for my person simply enjoy these little bit excentric designs of those years.

Stefan

Yes, but what's the reason to have a hold "inside the accommodation" as those 2 can be imagined as one?

This class of CGT motorships consisted of the "Magellan", "Maryland", "Michigan" and "Mississippi". They were designed as Passenger-cargo-vessels for the Europe to Northwest-Pacific run.

If someone would be kind to answer, why she has 2 accommodations that close but not as one or 2 far from each other?
