"Cunene", together with B-441 prototype "Bailundo" (IMO 6906139), were Szczecin Shipyard's proposal of neo-liberty concept, offered to Companhia Colonial de Navegacao. They could carry alternative full-ship cargoes:
- general cargo;
- bulk cargo (ore, coal, grain);
- timber - in holds and on deck;
- containers - 5 layers in holds and one on deck - as we can see in this nice picture.
They had also deep tanks for liquids, like vegetable oil.

To handle this cargo, they were equipped with:
- one 50t Stulcken derrick;
- two 25t derricks;
- ten 10t derricks;
- four 5t derricks.
