Phil, something wrong with this IMO of the wine tanker ELIANA it is an 8 digit number, should'nt it be a 7 digit one?

At that time a maltese wine merchant used to import wine from Sicily and then bottle it locally, could be that in this photo she was on her way to fill up in Sicily or Italy. In the late 40s wooden schooners were used but I think th e wine was imported in wooden casks and used to be unloaded in Marsa.

Emmanuel,

ELIANA - IMO 55277490
Built 1943 Levigston SB, USA, as "Y22"
(Presumably a US Naval auxiliary)
Renamed PHRYNE, MACTA, ELPIDA I, ELIANA, EDDA
Last classified as a wine tanker
Scrapped 1984

Yes Phil, on closer scrutiny she is a small coastal tanker,I wonder what is her history and eventual fate.

Eliana looks like a tanker, not a general cargo ship.
