Thanks to such unique features, the wast majority of my favourite coasters on here are Norwegian-built & with some odd-looking gear.

Regards,
Denis

Hello Captain Ted. This is a norwegian built and designed vessel. Norwegian coastal trade is unlike elsewhere in Europe. Loading and discharging at a myriade of small quai's/places, no stevedores at all. Built as 299 grt/5 crewmembers, sure it was necessary with a good overlook ;) And in addition to this; when the hatchcovers was in stowed position, only the small forward part of the foredeck was clear, -not much space left for placing the winches..

I don,t think that it has to with the view from the operating station because on plenty of ships with conventional derricks you had limited view , therefore you had a extra stevedore, in german sailor lingo "lukenviz" called who gave hand signals to the driver. Even today in modern cranes big parts of the cargo holds are not visible for the driver

@ SteKrueBe

Maybe complicated is the wrong word. My english isn't very good an I sometimes don't find the right words.

I wouldn't call it a complicated construction either.

The derrick had 5 t swl. All hatchcovers are stowed forward (as also can be seen on the bow construction), therefore the arrangement had to be made like this to secure overlook to the cargohold from the winch. And as far as i know the posts also contained ventilators.

I think the derrick at the front here had 15 tons sql, hence the strengthened frame. I THINK

Does anybody know why this complicated construction for the derrick?
