Description:

STILL ALIVE AND IN NORMAL SERVICE

Tug PLANKTON, built in 1943 by Shipbuilding Morris N.Y. Corporation USA (so it's written on the tug's bronze bell).

Do oversea friends in the States & tugboat enthusiasts know something more about the history of this Tug (at least its first 30 years after having been built in the States) ?

For a better idea of what her original appearance was, see the ALICE E, which was built in 1944 as DPC 32.

Goes to show, one never knows when or where they might come across a historic vessel.

Kyle

The bulwark on top of the wheelhouse and the streamlining of her funnel indicate her sojourn in Germany.

Looking at the hull and wheelhouse detail, this tug was one of 100 DPC class tugs built during WW-II. Most likely used in the English Channel for D-Day and then sold off as surplus after the war. She has been greatly altered along the way.

This a very typical US tug of the 40s with quite large superstucture and funnel but small working space aft.thanks Jadran.
