1864 Built for G. & J. Burns, Glasgow, and named Penguin.
1879 Purchased by Union Company.
1881 She was the first ship to steam up the new channel to Dunedin, and was briefly on the Auckland-Fiji run.
1895 She started the first regular Wellington-Lyttelton run on a weekly basis.
1902 She started a regular service between Wellington, Picton and Nelson.

1909 12th Feb. Picton-Wellington. Wrecked Toms Rock, Cape Terawhiti (72*)
Her remains have never been found and mystery surrounds the cause and exact location of the wreck.
