Description:

Of all the photos I took at sea, I doubt that even ten were in black and white. Here I'd arrived to join a ship at Genoa with a few unused frames of black and white in my camera. This was taken in August 1966 as the London Valour was leaving port.

Nice photo, interesting comments too: A ship "out-of-time" yet still a beauty in her own right.

Hi Denis. From what I read about her not many did like cruising on her. When the trans Atlantic passenger trade started to dwindle they tried cruising with her but the accommodation wasn't up to scratch for the job, especially the 3rd class. They decided it would be way too costly to convert her and gave up. She'd been built for $90M in 1965 and in 1976 she was sold for just $4M.

Nice ship but those funnels give her a kinda nuclear/radiation shade. Wouldn't want to be on a cruise on her.

Thanks Finn,
Having a cabin behind the wheelhouse always provided a great vantage point from which to take photos. David
