Fishing squids are made with colored jigs one by one. You can see better in the other photo of this vessel. Each mecanical arm has several jigs in a line, heaving up and slacking all the time. By night they turn on a very potent lights with thousands of watts alongside to call squids.

At the first sight it looked to me like an antique galley.

Squids are very good, I had no idea HOW they were fished, so thank you for this photo, very unique and true, the water near the ship appears to look quite black, so do the sides of the ship.

As the poster says: Using a floating anchor...plus the stern sail.... as in the old "Drifter" days of fishing... Old technology....saves fuel.. Makes sense.

Is it some kind of discharge from the squid? Even the water next to the ship looks black.

Squid jigger.
On almost all photos of them I saw they're in an urgent need of painting/cleaning.
