Description:

Help required to identify this vessel. Picture discovered in family photo album. Unknown Naval Vessel. Picture taken in approximately 1917/18. location is Freetown Sierra Leone, Topographic study seems to indicate that picture was taken in Destruction Bay. Name on stern is DELPHICxxxx unable to see the last letters. Many thanks in advance for your help!

Delphinium is what I came up with too. Sierra Leone was British and the ship has the classic lines of the Flower Class. I could probably give you a list of Commissioned/ Warrant officers as I have the Navy List somewhere.

HMS Delphinium was a Flower class sloop of the Arabis type.
Others of this type were Acacia, Azalea & Arabis. She ended up being sold in 1933 to someone in Llanelly.

This is HMS DELPHINIUM, Arabic class sloop of the Royal Navy, completed in 1916 by Napier & Miller Ltd. Old Kilpatrick, Glasgow. She was stricken from the Navy list in October 1933. Brgds

Closer examination of photo seems to indicate full name of vessel might be DELPHINIUM ?
