WELCOME TO SHIPSPOTTING.COM
Description:
The launch took place on 1st February 2006 at the BAe Systems yard at Scotstoun in Glasgow (or Yarrow/s as it is still unofficially called!!) of the first of the Royal Navy/s Type 45 destroyers.
This is the largest warship to be constructed in the covered berths at the yard with a length of approx. 500ft.
Sections were built at Scotstoun, Govan and Portsmouth and assembled at Scotstoun. Subsequent ships will be assembled at Govan and will also be launched the proper way, down greased ways!
I managed to get along for the big day and this is a small selection. Here she makes her grand entrance after naming by the Countess of Wessex.
