Hi Robbie,
Yes, this is one of the many that have been used. Some of the smaller gas tankers also operate up and down the coast after transferring gas from the larger tankers. The large tankers have a draft that would allow them to enter the port but they are kept in the bay due to safety reasons - the possibility of an explosion in port during transfer would be catastophic. Our main berths are dredged to 14m.

I think i read somewhere there is a is a tanker being used as a storage tanker off Brisbane and smaller vessels conduct sts alongside to reduce the draught so they can enter the port. is this the vessel?
