It's interesting to read your comment Mr.Dot,, it comes out that we are not only Shipspotters, but it seems that some of us (including Peter) are also Shipmodelers ..... a good connection !!
With very best regards /Jadran

I, too as a youngster, did the paper model of Christina and a number of other paper models, some are in this 'ships locker' I call my retirement room! mrdot.

Hi Peter, thank you very much for the part of this ship's history up till 1954,, highly appreciated !!
For the sake of good order only I mention herewith,, that after the initial conversion at Hamburg into Yacht, Ari Onassis named it CHRISTINA after the name of his daughter Christina.
As the Onassis private yacht it all the time carried the name CHRISTINA, until the Greek-American businessman John Paul Papanicolaou bought her.
After completion of the extensive refurbishment & reconstruction at VLS Rijeka in the year 2001, Papanicolaou renamed her to CHRISTINA O. (he added the "O.") to diverse the now being commercial yacht CHRISTINA O. from the Onassis's private yacht CHRISTINA.
With very best regards /Jadran

PS
You had really pleasantly surprised me, and I'm so glad to hear, that you modeled the CHRISTINA (in those years of 60s I was also a ship modeler for hobby ! ).

She in fact was one of the many RCN wartime river class destroyer escorts that played a large part in the winning of the battle of the Atlantic, and as surplus post war tonnage was snapped up be mr. Onassis for conversion to this most classic of yachts! mrdot.

Now that's what I call a classic yacht Jadran, and even though her date of construction is 2 years earlier than my birth,it seems that this ageing is like wine ,always getting better as time rolls on (mind you I am referring to the yacht and your truly).
As she was built during wartime did she spent time as a wartime naval auxiliary? Hope someone out there has an answer and post a comment.
