I'd say the unusual bow is a result of using largely flat and developable surfaces in the hull form. It's cheaper and easier to produce than "real" hull forms. If you look at this photograph of Canmar Ikaluk, you see something similar:

However, in this case I don't see the point. It's not X-bow or anything...
