The revival of the FUNCHAL is close to a miracle and one of the best recent developments in cruising in my eyes, together with the return of the SERENISSIMA (ex-ANDREA, ex-HARALD JARL).

Well said David!

Yes indeed. She comes from a time when cruise ships were intended to enable their passengers to savour the pleasure of sea voyages to distant interesting places. To me they now seem to be filled with nonsense intended to distract passengers from the fact that they are at sea, while transporting them in their masses from one appalling tourist trap to another.

Always pleasing to the eye. More of a yacht than just a ship!

Actually I find her balck hull most becoming!

At 52 still looking in good condition ....

I do not know any more such examples. Most cruiseships do not even reach such years (50) in passenger operation. Maxim Gorkiy was here very famous, and I think some of the older ones here are "Mona Lisa" and "Athena", but they had several name changes. However, these ships look beautiful ;)

Must be one of the few passenger ships still in operation that has kept her original name, for more than 50 years. Does anyone know of other such examples?
